About Us

Georgetown Veterinary Hospital LogoDrs. Daniel and Virginia Flynn established the Georgetown Veterinary Hospital shortly after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine back in 1959.   It has remained a family owned and operated practice since then... more than 50 years! We realize that people make the practice. Our dedicated staff is composed of compassionate animal health professionals, the majority of whom have been Georgetown Veterinary Hospital team members for decades.

Our vaccination program includes an annual physical examination in order to provide the best available protection for your pet. As medical care becomes increasingly preventive, a yearly check-up helps ensure early detection and treatment of potential problems before they become serious threats.

In the unfortunate case that your pet is experiencing a problem, our doctors will provide thorough analysis through a complete physical exam and other diagnostic testing. Our in –house laboratory and radiographic capabilities allow us to provide prompt and proper treatment.

Additional diagnostic services include ultrasound and electrocardiogram (EKG). When necessary, university and veterinary laboratories provide specialized diagnostics.

Our surgery suite and large treatment and recovery area enable our doctors to provide the utmost in quality and care for a variety of routine and elective procedures. Each patient is closely monitored during and after surgery and when necessary is placed in an intensive care area.

ph_hospital1We offer your pet canines an indoor/outdoor climate controlled kennel with all the comforts of home. For the feline members of your family, our cat center offers a safe, quiet, dog-free haven. In addition bathing and limited grooming is provided.

All emergencies are handled on a top priority basis. If an emergency situation arises after regular hours our answering machine will answer to provide you with the telephone numbers for the emergency centers.

If scheduling an appointment is not something you can work into your daily schedule we allow for animals to be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6:00 p.m. Monday Through Friday.

Payment options: VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, cash and personal checks. Please note that payment is due when services are rendered. Payment arrangements can be made on an individual basis when circumstances permit.

Payment is expected at the time of service. When extenuating circumstances apply we offer CareCredit® to qualified applicants:

What Charlottesville Thinks Of Us

Best vets ever!!!!!

Best vets ever!!!!!

Excellent medical care

Excellent medical care and delightful staff......

Drove from Boise, ID

Excellent veterinary care. Even when I moved to Richmond, I drove the hour back to Charlottesville to take my dogs to them. In fact, I was in Boise, ID and drove back with my dogs so one of them could be seen at Georgetown. Amy is the BEST vet tech, and Dr. Handley couldn't have been more knowledgeable and caring when it came to both of my dogs.

Thank You!

This is an exceptional clinic. After moving from another state, I needed to find qualified vets that could work with me and my breeding program. I went through many clinics before finding Georgetown. Both Dr. Peppard and Dr. Hanley have been valuable members of the health of my dogs. They go the distance and then further. The staff is helpful and always cheerful. I just want to thank you again for all that you do.

Knowledgeable and Incredibly Kind

I love Georgetown vet! Both Dr. Handley and Dr. Fietz are great, the techs are always incredibly gentle with the animals, and the receptionists are timely and friendly. Both vets have always been on time or very close to being on time for my appointments and I've never had to wait long to check out either. I was worried moving from D.C. to Charlottesville for law school that my pets' care might be compromised because of the smaller city but I've found the care at Georgetown vet to be very comparable to that of the vet I used and used to work for in D.C. Georgetown vet also has very reasonable prices in my opinion and I've found the doctors to be both knowledgeable and incredibly kind. Great vet if you live in the Charlottesville area!

Top Notch Care

My pets have always received top-notch care at Georgetown Vet. The vets are kind, caring and have always provided high quality care. All the vets are wonderful but my dogs especially love Dr Peppard and Dr Handley.

Great Experience

Great experience, nice helpful staff. Dr. Fietz was very patient with my new kitty and me lol. I will return and recommend.

LOVE Georgetown Vet

I LOVE Georgetown vet. If your dog is sick and needs care, they are in tender and loving hands at Georgetown.

My two guys had gotten into some grapes from the garbage, which are poisonous and can cause kidney failure in dogs. I was panicked and came into their office crying after they had spent the night at the emergency vet in the dog "ICU." I can't remember the name of the vet tech but as she took my dogs to the back both she and Dr. Stone just really warmly reiterated to me they are going to be fine," which I really needed to hear. And they were.

A few weeks later one of my guys had a funky poo which I brought in for a sample, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say thay they called me with the results before I even opened my front door.

So yes, I really, really recommend Georgetown vet for compassionate and thorough care!

Highly Recommend

Dr. Fietz is fantastic. He is the only vet that has been able to calm the nerves of my cat while at the vet. He obviously loves his job and my animals feel very relaxed around him. I highly recommend Georgetown Veterinary!

The Best!!!!

The BEST!!! Honest, ethical and caring. They don't promote anything your animal doesn't truly need.

Honest & Straight Forward

Dr. Feitz is fantastic with my dog and is honest and straight forward when explaining problems and possible treatments. My dog doesn't enjoy being handled by strangers, but Dr. Feitz does his best to not unduly stress my dog and works hard to make each visit as positive an experience as possible for both me and my dog. Not all vets are this dog savvy or gentle!

I have also boarded my dog here and while it isn't cheap, the staff takes really good care of my dog (including following feeding instructions) and he always comes home looking and smelling great. The staff actually seem really happy to see him when he comes in for appointments and boarding, which is really a bonus to me.

Overall, after having used them for the last 2+ years, I have to say I really recommend them.

Enjoyed Our Experience

Dr. Pepperd was extremely thorough and understood aspects of our dog that our previous vet missed. We really enjoyed our experience, and it was also affordable.

Thorough, Affordable and Much Appreciated

Georgetown Vet is by far the best veterinary hospital I have ever been to. They treat our basset hounds so kindly, and Dr. Peppard did a phenomenal job with surgery on our older dog. The care is thorough, affordable, and much appreciated!

They Are Wonderful

I really like all the vets, vet techs, and staff at Georgetown Vets. Dr. Handley is wonderful and had such comforting words and manner when I had to put my cat Murphy down. My dogs and I visit weekly just to say hello. They are all wonderful.

Great Things To Say

We've brought our cat Sophie here for both routine care and an emergency, and have nothing but great things to say about every staff member.

Our kitty seems to love the way the vet techs fuss over how cute she is. Dr. Stone was wonderful when Sophie had an emergency situation last week and was able to address our concerns with both compassion and competence, and we appreciated that she wanted to be thorough and careful while also pursuing the most conservative treatment options first. We know we'll be moving in the not too distant future and we so wish we could take Dr. Stone with us!

Simply The Best Vet

We have been going to Dr. Handley for 13 years, and she and her staff clearly love taking care of animals and understand how important pets are to the people whom they love and love them. From minor injuries to surgeries and end of life care, Dr. Handley has been there to give outstanding care to our four dogs. Simply the best vet. In addition, the vet technicians are superb - gentle with the dogs, but clearly in charge. They also fuss over the dogs, who, being the original attention hounds, eat it up.

Great Veterinary Experience

Everyone there is extremely nice and knowledgeable. My dog, Riley, is skittish around other people at times but feels very comfortable and relaxed whenever we go in to Georgetown. Dr. Peppard is especially great. I would recommend Georgetown to anyone in search of a great veterinary experience!
