ABOUT US

Drs. Daniel and Virginia Flynn established the Georgetown Veterinary Hospital shortly after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine back in 1959.   It has remained a family owned and operated practice since then… for over 60 years!

We realize that people make the practice. Our dedicated staff is composed of compassionate animal health professionals, the majority of whom have been Georgetown Veterinary Hospital team members for decades.  Learn more about our team members here – OUR TEAM

TESTIMONIALS

  • Ted Dirn
I can't say enough about Dr. Peppard. He is absolutely wonderful with my sweet Ladybug. When he comes in the room he immediately sits on the floor and she climbs into his lap, smiling a big toothy smile.

We have a reactive dog and the whole team is always so patient, loving, and kind to both her and me when times are tough. We also take our cat and dog with pancreatitis for treatment there and are always impressed by the kindness and knowledge of the whole staff.

Front office and Veterinary support team are customer-focused, kind and professional - despite the large volume of animals they handle each day. Very busy practice!

PREVENTATIVE

The old adage, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” certainly holds true when it comes to pet health.  Even if your pets aren’t excited about going to the vet, the cost of prevention is often a fraction of the cost of treating a disease or problem once it has become more advanced, and early diagnosis and treatment of developing problems or diseases can increase the likelihood of successful outcomes.  Georgetown Veterinary Hospital provides preventative care for dogs and cats to keep them healthy well into the future.

Preventive healthcare involves a multi-faceted approach that includes veterinary evaluation of your pet’s overall health and risks of disease or other health problems. We will provide you with recommendations for your pet’s nutrition, dental care, vaccinations and heartworm/flea/tick prevention, as well as recommendations specifically tailored to your pet’s health status and risk factors.  If you’re not sure whether your pet is up to date on his/her preventative care or need to make an appointment, call 434 977 4600.

DENTAL CARE

Oral hygiene is extremely important to the overall health of your pet and care needs to be provided to keep the mouth healthy. Oral hygiene starts at home with regular brushing, proper chew toys, and special treats for keeping gums and teeth healthy. However, significant tartar and plaque build up on teeth after the first couple of years and can cause significant disease by three to four years of age if proper care is not maintained.

Georgetown Veterinary Hospital provides professional dental care for your pets.

VACCINATIONS

Cat and dog vaccinations protect pets against dangerous and potentially lethal diseases. Because of vaccines, many animal diseases have been contained in the last 100 years. At one time, feline distemper was the leading cause of disease in cats, but today it’s relatively uncommon. Rabies is still prevalent in wildlife and is one of several diseases that can be passed to people. Annual vaccination against rabies is required by law. At Georgetown Veterinary Hospital, we work to give our patients complete protection.

DIAGNOSTICS

In the unfortunate case that your pet is experiencing a medical issue, our doctors will provide thorough analysis through a complete physical exam and other diagnostic testing. Our in–house laboratory and radiographic capabilities allow us to provide prompt and proper treatment. Additional diagnostic services provided at Georgetown Veterinary Hospital include ultrasound and electrocardiogram (EKG). When necessary, University and veterinary laboratories provide specialized diagnostics.

SURGERY

Our surgery suite and large treatment and recovery area enable our doctors to provide the utmost in quality and care for a variety of routine and elective procedures. Each patient is closely monitored during and after surgery and when necessary is placed in an intensive care area.
